France’s Sainte-Alvère summer truffle market launches early due to concerns over high summer temperatures

The Sainte-Alvère market

  • The Sainte-Alvère market in Dordogne, France, known for its truffle sales, began its summer season on 22 May, with 3.6kg of summer truffles sold at a price range of €150-200 ($240-325AUD) per kg

  • The market opened early this year due to the impact of high temperatures on truffle quality in previous years

  • While the less fragrant summer truffle is generally less sought after than the black Périgord truffle sold in winter, it still attracts interest due to its freshness and availability until mid-July at the Sainte-Alvère market
