Doha's culinary scene welcomes early black truffles

Hakkasan is serving black truffles on the 7th June

  • Modern Cantonese restaurant group Hakkasan is celebrating being the recipient of one Michelin star each at Hakkasan in London’s Mayfair and Hanway Place, Dubai, and Abu Dhabi with an event in Doha

  • A special menu for the June event has been devised by chefs from across the Hakkasan sites and features two black truffle dishes: "Peking duck duet," which includes Peking duck with caviar and a black truffle roasted duck puff; and "Supreme stock ribbon noodle," which includes a soft-boiled egg with Nameko mushroom and shaved black truffle

  • The announcement reveals that South Hemisphere distributors believe that growers can provide sufficiently high-quality truffles by 7th June

Manjimup’s low soil temperatures in May: a promising sign for early truffle ripening?

Manjimup had lower average daily soil temperatures for May than in previous years

  • Manjimup’s mean minimum soil temperature in May was slightly below the equivalent figures for 2021 and 2022

  • The average minimum daily soil temperature for May 2023 was 9.3°C, down from 10.6°C in 2022 and 12.5°C in 2021

  • It is believed that lower soil temperatures play an important role in the ripening of black truffles, with this year’s low May temperatures an auspicious sign for early ripening
